Tomb of the Lord of Sipán at Huaca Rajada (3 Hours)

Visit to the tomb of the Lord of Sipán and the countryside with its sugar, rice and cotton fields. The first of the tombs belonging to the Lords of Sipán was found in 1987 and it was immediately ranked as the world’s most important archaeological discovery in the last quarter century and compared to the finding of King Toutankamon’s tomb in the the Valley of the Kings in Egypt.

Guided visit to the Royal Tombs of Sipán Museum, in Lambayeque, where the remains of the Lord of Sipán as well as around 800 pieces of gold and copper ornaments and textiles are on exhibit since the official opening in November 8, 2002. On three floors are displayed not only the jewels and the remains of the Lord of Sipán but also replicas of the tombs found in Huaca Rajada. In the rear of the Museum, the descendants of the Moche culture can be seen while they work with the same materials and the same techniques as their ancestors. National Museum of Sicán (4 Hours)

Guided visit to the National Museum of Sicán, opened last year, where you will find around 200 pieces of gold and one hundred ceramics belonging to the Lambayeque Culture. Sicán was the most important religious centre of the north of Peru. Here you can appreciate the development of history of this culture between 700 and 1375 years A.D.

Túcume (4 Hours)

Visit to the adobe pyramid temples of Túcume, 40 kms/25 miles north of Chiclayo. From one of the scenic points you can identify the remains of at least five temples. Some served residential and administrative functions while others were clearly dedicated to religious ceremonies. The beauty and monumental aspect of Tucume make it resemble the grandiose capitals of Mesopotamia.

Short tour of the city and visit to the colourful straw market with woven goods, such as hats and baskets and the interesting herb market, where you find all the ingredients for infusions to restore your health; love potions can also be purchased, if you have faith in them.
Zaña (3 Hours)

South of Chiclayo lies the town of Zaña. Built in 1563 it was also called the "Small Potosi" due to its opulence and riches. Remains of churches and colonial houses can still be seen. Zaña was attacked and destroyed by pirates in 1686 and in 1720 by floods, after which the town was abandoned. Today it is a village inhabited by the descendants of slaves who were brought to Peru from Africa to work in the fields.
