MACHU PICCHU, THE LOST CITY OF THE INCAS

To reach Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, visitors take a train journey through the spectacular scenery of the Urubamba Valley. You can choose either to make a day trip from Cuzco or to stay in the on-site Sanctuary Lodge Hotel, in the lovely Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel down in the valley, in the Machu Picchu Inn or in hostels in the village of Aguas Calientes, and prolong the delights of visiting this unique place.

High on jungle-covered hilltops, Machu Picchu was never found by the Spanish conquerors and many parts of the ancient city remain to be discovered. Energetic visitors can climb the heights of the nearby Huayna Picchu for fine photographs of the archaeological wonder and surrounding countryside. The even more energetic can hike the four-day Inca Trail connecting Cuzco with Machu Picchu.

Climate: Sunny and warm with occasional rain between December and March.
