TREKKING AND MOUNTAIN CLIMBING IN THE CORDILLERA BLANCA

Although only 95 kms/60 miles from the Pacific Coast and a mere 129 kms/80 miles in length, this world's highest tropical mountain range contains 27 peaks over 6,400 mts/20,000 feet. Among the most famous are the Huascaran (6,800 mts/22,334 feet) Peru's highest mountain; the Huandoy (6,400 mts/20,915 feet) whose southern face is a 1,380mts/ 4,500 feet sheer granite wall; and the Alpamayo (5,980 mts/19,600 feet) awarded with the title of the "most beautiful mountain in the world".
South of the Cordillera Blanca, the Cordillera Huayhuash is considered by far one of the most spectacular ranges of the entire Andes Mountains. It offers a stunning succession of memorable vistas, towering ice-covered mountains, deep canyons, idyllic Andean meadows and colour-tinted lakes brimming with large rainbow trout; also, home to large flocks of black ibis and geese.
The peaks, valleys, lakes and gorges of both Cordillera Blanca and Huayhuash (420 kms or 260 miles North of Lima) are a trekker's and climber's paradise. The following itineraries take you through the impressive landscapes of the Huascaran National Park and Huayuash Range and include transport from Lima to Huaraz and back, accommodation in Huaraz and trekking with a mountain guide, cook, muleteers and pack animals.
