Puruchuco (4 hours)
Private Services Only
(5 km., 30 minutes drive from Downtown Lima)
Beneath the bone-dry soil in a schoolyard at a village called Tupac Amaru on the outskirts of Lima, lies one of the largest Inca cemeteries yet found in Peru. This pre-Hispanic site is known to archaeologists as Puruchuco-Huaquerones, and dates from the Late Horizon (1438 to 1532).
Puruchuco, the reconstructed palace of a pre-Inca Huacho noble, is a site widely well-known but that has received little attention of science and archaeologists, and there are no reasonable explanations to justify this forgetfulness. Of the whole sample in the Museum, the textile materials and ceramics are, without doubt, the cultural evidence of greater artistic quality.
