PUN 601 Puno-La Paz or vice-versa by land (Local bus) Daily departure by local bus, basis seat-in-bus, via Juli and Pomata, to Copacabana in Bolivia. Change to Bolivian bus, cross the Tiquina Strait and continue on to La Paz. No special stops for sightseeing en route.
PUN 602 Puno-La Paz or vice-versa by land (private transportation) Via Strait of Tiquina
Departure from Puno by private bus or car. En route, stop at the village of Chucuito, then at Juli, the "Aymara Rome" where you can see the different styles of construction, as well as the amazing art legacy of colonial paintings, stone work and architecture and in Pomata where the church is built of red sand-stone and the interior is completely carved. After crossing the Peru-Bolivian boundary at Yunguyo, arrival in Copacabana, the main centre of peregrination of Bolivia, whose Cathedral holds the famous Dark Virgin of Copacabana. Bordering the Lake Titicaca continue to the Strait of Tiquina. This narrow strait connects the eastern and western shores of the lake. The crossing is made by ferry-boat and the trip continues on the east banks of the lake. Arrival in La Paz . Lunch en route. Note: The road between Puno, Copacabana and La Paz is paved.
PUN 603 Puno-La Paz or vice-versa by land (private transportation) Via Desaguadero and Tiahuanaco ruins
Same as above but the crossing of the Peru/Bolivian border is in Desaguadero. Continue to the port of Guaqui and on to the Tiahuanaco complex, one of the oldest cultures in America, with great development in pottery, stone construction and agriculture. Visit to the ruins and temples of this large complex. Late afternoon arrival in La Paz. Picnic box en route. Note: The road between Puno, Desaguadero and La Paz is now paved.
